Rennsport Reunion IV

Longtime friend (my roomate in college, etc.) Chris Frank in the 914 - 4.

History on the Frank's 914: In 1972, Jo Hoppen, the director of Motorsports for VW and Porsche/Audi, approached Richie Ginther (Former Formula One driver and mechanic, sports car racer, and Carrera Pan America winner) to prepare a 914 for the 1972 American Road Race Championship, and to develop a kit and an article to help club racers build a competitive car. Ginther, and his ace mechanic Harold Broughton, built one car taking theirb knowledge from their C production 914-6’s raced by Elliott Forbes Robinson and Alan Johnson. The car was finished just in time to make enough national events to qualify for the 1972 E production run-offs. EFR drove it at the runoffs, qualified on the pole with a new class record in the dry and won by a huge margin in the rain, but they hadn't checked the width of the rain wheels and the rear track was deemed a quarter-inch too wide in post race scrutineering.

There were so many 956 and 962s, I didn't get many photos of them

Porsche unveiled the newest 911. Longer wheelbase, kinda bigger looking all around.

10:00am is a good time for a cigar.

OK - no Porsche branding, but what Porsche event would be complete without an excellent combination of acid-wash and gold chain.

Also not directly Porsche-themed - but an awesome Laguna paddock look neveretheless.

Also perfect period 80's with the 935 in the foreground.

Nothing goes better with endurance racing and a Porsche shirt than a Camel cigarette.
